I'm celebrating today, celebrating the odd silly day that I arrived on this earth as it relates to the sun and moon cycles of course... it's a weird anniversary you might say... a celestial similarity if you will and although it really doesn't mean anything... it's still fun I suppose... the idea of a birth date relative to human perception of time. Counting tree rings.. Ha... so.. As a birthday present to myself, and to you, here are some words for the day:
"One of the most transformative things you could ever begin doing, Mizzy, is to start “thinking in pictures.” Of what you want, of what you love, of who you dream of becoming."
Pictures, pictures.... still pictures are so fascinating to me. Snapshots of our lives on earth, weather landscape or of ourselves in time and space. Take this moment on the (Left) or (above), so happy I have a photograph of it... to you all it doesn't hardly mean a thing but to me it speaks volumes. The nylon string guitar I found at goodwill on Victory blvd, my relationships with James from against all will and our times recording in Korns studio in Hollywood and rehearsing in the Valley, old rings and old hats and old wallet chains and old songs that bring back even older memories. I can still smell that room and hear those mixes coming off that old mixing board. I can still recall the band gatherings outside the building during long sessions, a group dream, passions for the cause and that unity of a common goal and the turbulence that come with rock and roll. Old relationships come and gone, old dreams come and gone... but all leading to somewhere new. That's what pictures mean to me, that's why I take pictures.
Landscapes do the same for me, maybe for us all.
Anyway, just a little reflection this morning on my birthday. And a few pics of me, Matthew Pacheco, or Mizzy, or Vel or John or whatever else you might call me through the years.
Looking forward to more pics and more songs.
I have a very interesting year ahead of me with a new record, a new band and lots of new/old images yet to see the light of day. Looking forward to it all.
